"Yes, And?" is a song by American singer Ariana Grande, originally released on January 12, 2024, as the lead single from her seventh studio album Eternal Sunshine. A remix with Mariah Carey was released on February 16, 2024 and was later included in the "slightly deluxe" version of the album.

Background[]

Grande first teased the remix on February 14, 2024 by sharing a 9-piece collage of its cover art on her Sweetener Instagram page. Later that day, both singers changed their Instagram profile photo to a foil Polaroid photo of their eyes and the song was officially announced by Grande on Instagram, writing: "i cannot believe the words i am typing …… Yes, And? Remix feat the one and only, queen of my heart and lifelong inspiration @mariahcarey is out this friday !!!!!!!!!!!"[1] Carey reciprocated the excitement on both her Instagram and X accounts, writing "Darling angel, I am so effing excited to be joining you on the yes, and? remix!! This is such a magical moment!!"

Following the announcement, a CD single of the remix was made available for pre-order on Grande's online store.[2]

Cricial reception[]

Jason Lipshutz from Billboard praised the remix, noting that while it "does boast some absolutely scorching high-register work from both [...] the true beauty of this new team-up exists in the superstars combining their respective ferocities, and injecting this ode to minding your own business with even more full-hearted passion." Lipshutz also praised Carey's delivery during the second verse, adding that "she sounds phenomenal, but her personality is even more commanding than her voice."[3] The New York Post's Chuck Arnold highlighted how "while they both have plenty of room to do their thing, it never feels like a competition," drawing parallels between Carey's contribution to the track and "all those legendary house remixes she did in the '90s," notably from the Emotions era.[4] Writing for AudioPhix, Lee Vowell stated that "somehow, [Carey's] ethereal voice forces its way through the intro house beat and becomes the single most important instrument in the first 31 seconds" and that Carey "adds an element of harmony and character that the original does not have quite enough of."[5] Uproxx's Derrick Rossignol also praised Carey's new verse, detailing that it "slots perfectly into the self-confident banger."[6]

Lyric video[]

A lyric video for "Yes, And?" was posted on Grande's YouTube channel minutes after the track was released. It consists of the lyrics of the song surrounded by foil Polaroid photographs of Carey and Grande, both together and alone, during their respective parts.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1: Ariana Grande]
In case you haven't noticed
Well, everybody's tired
And healing from somebody
Or something we don't see just right

[Pre-Chorus: Ariana Grande & Mariah Carey]
Boy come on put your lipstick on (no one can tell you nothing)
Come on and walk this way through the fire (don't care what's on their mind)
And if you find yourself in a dark situation
Just turn on your light and be like

[Chorus: Mariah Carey & Ariana Grande]
Yes, and?
Say that shit with your chest and
Be your own fuckin' best friend
Say that shit with your chest
Keep moving like what's next?
Yes, and?

[Verse 2: Mariah Carey]
Now I'm so done with sharing
This hypocrisy with you
Baby you have been rejected
Go back no more pretending bye

[Pre-Chorus: Ariana Grande & Mariah Carey]
Boy come on put your lipstick on (no one can tell you nothing)
Come on and walk this way through the fire (don't care what's on their mind)
And if you find yourself in a dark situation
Just turn on your light and be like

[Chorus: Ariana Grande & Mariah Carey]
Yes, and? (yes)
Say that shit with your chest and (and)
Be your own fuckin' best friend
(Be your own)
Say that shit with your chest
Keep moving like what's next?
Yes, and?

[Bridge: Ariana Grande & Mariah Carey]
My tongue is sacred I speak upon what I like
(Speak upon what I like)
Protected, sexy, discerning with my time
(Your energy is yours)
Your energy is yours and mine is mine
(Mine is mine)
What's mine is mine
My face is sitting I don't need no disguise (ohhh)
Don't comment on my body, do not reply
(Don't you comment on my life)
Your business is yours and mine is mine
(Why do you care so much)
Why do you care so much whose ! I ride?
(Whose ! I ride)
Why?

[Chorus: Ariana Grande, Ariana Grande & Mariah Carey, Mariah Carey]
Yes, and? (yes, and?)
Say that shit with your chest and (say that shit with your chest)
Be your own fuckin' best friend (oh, be your own, be your own; oh)
Say that shit with your chest (say that shit with your chest, baby)
Keep moving like what's next?
Yes, and? (Say that shit, say that shit)
Yes (Ooh), and? (Yes, and?)
Say that shit with your chest (Ooh) and (Oh)
Be your own fuckin' best (Be your own best friend) friend
Say that shit with your chest
Keep moving like what's next? (Like, "What's next?")
Yes, and? (Yeah)
