The Rarities is Mariah's eight compilation album. The album was released on October 2, 2020.[1] It features previously unheard material including demo versions and unreleased tracks.
"The Rarities" was issued to coincide with her upcoming memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey and the twenty-fifth anniversary of Carey's fifth studio album, Daydream.
The release of this album is part of the #MC30 anniversary celebrations.
Background[]
On August 18, 2020, Mariah's fans began tweeting claims of an upcoming compilation album and single. In the early hours of August 19, Mariah confirmed that it was in fact true that a new album is on the way.[2] On the same date, she announced the album on Good Morning America. "Save The Day" is a new song that is on the album.[1] The song was written and produced by Mariah and Jermaine Dupri in 2012 and is the lead single of the album.
The album comprises of 32 tracks, 17 of the tracks are live performances from Tokyo that were captured during the Daydream World Tourin March of 1996. [3]
On September 9, 2020, Mariah revealed the full track-list of the album.[4]
Release[]
The album will be released on October 2, 2020. It will be available physically and digitally on streaming platforms.[5] Mariah promoted the album during her Good Morning America appearance on August 19, 2020. The album debuted at #2 on the iTunes U.S. Albums Charts. For a short period, the album peaked at #1 and #2 on the U.S. and Worldwide iTunes charts respectively.
