She would reportedly do her "alter-ego band sessions" after working on Daydream each night. She described her alter ego has being similar to Bianca Storm who appeared in the "Heartbreaker" music video. In her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Mariah expressed that recording songs for "Someone's Ugly Daughter" helped her cope with her anger.[3] It also helped Mariah get "through some dark days." Additionally, she also described the experience as "weirdly good" and "satirical."

Song's Lyrics[]
The song "Surrender" by seems to be about a young person's perspective on their parents and their lifestyle. In the first verse, the person's mother warns them to stay away from people like the person the song is directed to. In the second verse, the father agrees with the mother and reveals that the mother served in the military before they were married. The third verse discusses how the person wakes up to find their parents rolling numbers and listening to rock and roll music. The chorus repeats throughout the song, indicating that the person is confused about their parents' behavior and their relationship with them. Despite the parents' unconventional behavior, the song ultimately ends on a positive note, with the repeated refrain that "Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, and the kids are alright."
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
Mother told me, yes, she told me
That I'd meet guys like you
She also told me, "Stay away
You'll never know what you'll catch”
Just the other day I heard
A soldier's falling off
Some Indonesian junk
Was goin’ round
[Chorus]
Mommy's alright
Daddy's alright
They just seem a little weird
Surrender, surrender
But don't give yourself away
Hey, hey
[Verse 2]
Father says, "Your mother's right
She's really up on things
Before we married, Mommy served
In the WACS in the Philippines”
Now, I had heard the WACs
Recruited old maids for the war
But mommy isn't one of those
I've known her all these years
[Chorus]
Mommy's alright
Daddy's alright
They just seem a little weird
Surrender, surrender
But don't give yourself away
Hey, hey
[Verse 3]
Whatever happened to all this season's
Losers of the year?
Every time I got to thinking
And then they’d disappear?
But when I woke up, Mom and Dad
Are rolling on the couch
Rolling numbers, rock and rollin'
Got my KISS records out
[Chorus]
Mommy's alright
Daddy's alright
They just seem a little weird
Surrender
Surrender
But don't give yourself away
Hey, hey
Away
Away
[Outro]
Surrender (Mommy's all right)
Surrender (Daddy's all right)
But don't give yourself away
Surrender (Mommy's all right)
Surrender (Daddy's all right)
But don't give yourself away
Surrender (Mommy's all right)
Surrender (Daddy's all right)
But don't give yourself away
Surrender (Mommy's all right)
Surrender (Daddy's all right)
But don't give yourself away
Mommy's alright
Daddy's alright
Kids are alright
They’re all alright
They’re all alright
They’re all alright
They’re all alright
They’re all alright
They’re all alright
They’re all alright
They’re all alright
They’re all alright
They’re all alright
They’re all alright
They’re all alright
Mommy's alright
Daddy's alright
They just seem a little weird
