Background[]
According to Mariah, She wrote the song when the Monroe and Moroccan were babies.[2] In addition, Carey stated that "Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis created the perfect blend to encapsulate the feeling I was experiencing back then. Even Roc & Roe said “what took you so long?”
In April 2019, Jimmy Jam revealed via Instagram that he and his work partner Terry Lewis had plans to release their debut album, "Jam & Lewis Vol 1." Even though Jam hinted the LP would drop that year, it wasn’t released until 2021.[3]
Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis announced the song on June 2, 2021.[4] In their tweet they stated:

Critical reception[]
Variety stated that the song "opens with Carey’s silky vocals laid over softly plucked strings before simmering into an upbeat, piano and bass-driven chorus. Of course, Carey’s signature sky-high whistle notes are layered throughout the bridge.[7] You Know I Got Soul stated that the song "is a fun and nostalgic song that features all three tapping into what they do best. The beat change from slow burn to up-tempo jam during the chorus is epic as well."[8]
Retro Pop stated that Mariah "serves sensational vocals" on the song.[9]
