“ | The first song I did was ‘Silent Night.’ The decorations didn’t seem too out of place in the room at that point, and it didn’t seem too strange to be singing Christmas music. | ” |
– Mariah Carey |
“Silent Night” is the first song from Mariah's fourth studio album, “Merry Christmas.” The song is a cover of the popular Christmas carol, which was originally written by Franz Gruber and Josef Mohr.[1] Mariah's version of the song was released on 1 October 1994 through Columbia Records and is produced by herself, Walter Afanasieff, and Loris Holland.
A Live version of the song is featured on “Merry Christmas (Deluxe Anniversary Edition)” which was released on November 1, 2019.[2]

Lyrics[]
Holy night
All is calm
All is bright
'Round yon virgin Mother and Child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night
Holy night
Son of God
Oh love's pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Jesus, Lord at thy birth
Oh, Jesus, Lord at thy birth
Sleep, sleep
Sleep in heavenly, heavenly peace
Sleep, sleep, sleep in heavenly, heavenly, heavenly peace
Peace, peace
