Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town is the eight track from Mariah's first holiday album "Merry Christmas." The track is a cover of the popular Christmas song that was originally written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie in 1934.[1] Mariah's version of the song was produced by herself and Walter Afanasieff and released on November 1, 1994 through Columbia Records.[2]

Critical reception[]
In his book titled Mariah Carey Revisited, author Chris Nickson states "Mariah’s rendition of “Santa Clause Is Comin’ to Town,” the song she’d sung at Madison Square Garden, wasn’t as rock-and-roll as the version Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band released in 1981, but it was still sprightly and appealing.[3]
Live performances[]
Carey first performed “Santa Clause Is Comin’ to Town” at Madison Square Gardens during The Music Box Tour on December 10, 1993.[4] Her second performance of the song was on December 8, 1994 at The Fresh Air Fund Benefit Concert in New York City. [5] Throughout her performance, she interacted with the kids from The Fresh Air Fund and her background singers.
“Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town” is also a part of the setlist for "All I Want for Christmas Is You: A Night of Joy and Festivity" concert.
