Below are some general rules for image use on Mariah Carey Wiki.

Adopted from Adele Wiki

General RulesEdit

FilenamesEdit

Images should be given descriptive filenames. This means that the filename should reflect the content of the image. Images with meaningless names like "IMG_123.jpg", "Untitled_123.png" and similar can be subject for deletion.

File extensionsEdit

There are several file extensions that can be uploaded to Mariah Carey Wiki, with the most common being .JPG, .GIF, and .PNG. .PNG files are generally preferable due to its lossless data compression.

CopyrightsEdit

Every non-free image is used on Adele Wiki under the auspices of as Fair use under U.S. fair use laws. This means that they are used for informational/educational purposes, meant to identity the subject of an article and to illustrate something directly relevant to the text in its immediate vicinity.

UsageEdit

Given the nature of copyrighted images, Adele Wiki tries to use them sparingly, and whenever possible on more than one single article, instead of using different pictures to illustrate the same subject.

The use of too many images on the same article should also be avoided. Apart from the general consensus that it causes aesthetic problems, this practice also directly challenges the policy that we use images sparingly.

Certain exceptions apply to fanon posted on the site. When an image already on the wiki does not serve the meaning the writer wishes to convey, users may upload up to three images for a specific fanon article that are not currently in use elsewhere. There are no exemptions on the use of images that were already uploaded for canon articles.

SourcingEdit

All images must have clear source info as to where the image is from. For this, they need to fill the Licensing.

Types of ImagesEdit

  1. Images, with few exceptions should be based on Adele or other articals.
  2. Fan art should be exclusive to user pages.

Formats and CroppingEdit

  1. Non-free images must remain unaltered. Changing colors, adding watermarks, text, or making montages that corrupt the copyright owners' original work is considered to be an infringement.
  2. Enhancing the colors levels, shading, brightness, contrast, and/or alpha of non-free images should only be done so as to improve their overall quality.
  3. Screenshots should preferably be submitted in their original ratio (4:3 or 16:9), unless they could benefit from cropping.
    1. If an image contains empty space or elements other than the subject being depicted, the image should be cropped to isolate the subject with respect given to the guidelines concerning closeups.

QualityEdit

  1. The image should be of the highest quality available. In the case of duplicate images, the highest quality image is kept.
  2. The infobox image should depict the character's most typical and recognizable likeness, unless consensus dictates otherwise.
  3. Extreme facial closeups should be avoided.

ReplacementEdit

Replacing can take place when the original file is of low resolution/quality. In this case, the original picture must be replaced by the exact same version (with better quality).
