Henry was an horticulturalist and Patricia Carey's former boyfriend. They dated while Mariah was in third grade. In The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Mariah described Henry as being one of sweet boyfriends that Patricia had. Henry grew various extraordinary plants, drove a red pickup truck and he also had an Afro. Mariah and Patricia would move in with Henry who lived in a small house which gave Mariah "plantation vibes." One day he brought home two rescue kittens, one for himself and one which he gave to Mariah. He also built Mariah a swing which stood on a "mountain made of garbage." Henry would dance and pick Mariah up and twirl around with her.
Mariah suspected that Henry suffered form PTSD (due to his experiences in the Vietnam War) and even as child Mariah was aware of his psychedelic drug use.
During the impending end of Mariah's 3rd grade school year, Mariah came home and her mom announced that they had to leave Henry's home. Henry stated that they couldn't leave and threatened to chop Mariah and Patricia up and put them in the refrigerator. After leaving the house and getting into Patricia's car, Mariah realized that she left her cat Morris in Henry's house, she would then rescue him and that was the last time she ever saw Henry.
According to Mariah, Henry heard her first single "Vision of Love" in 1990 and shouted "She made it!"
