Background

Rumors of the song began circulating in September of 2021 when a website speculated that a collaboration was in the works with Kirk Franklin. On November 1, 2021 Carey officially announced the project via social media. A 30 second snippet of the song was also shared on November 1st. On the eve of the song's release, Carey released another snippet of the song. The single is part of Mariah's upcoming holiday special, Mariah’s Christmas: The Magic Continues.j

The single is part of a limited Edition CD which contains three versions: Main, Radio Edit, & Radio Edit with Outro.

Critical reception

The magazine Vulture stated "It’s an extremely smooth duet with Khalid, just nonstop harmonizing and that twinkly sound effect that I want to say is … chimes? Is it chimes? And just when the song is shepherding you softly to sleep, choirmaster Kirk Franklin brings the gospel choir in and kicks things up a notch. At this point, Carey’s kids and dog all join the music video, Carey’s breaking out the whistle tone, and Franklin gives a little spoken outro about love and grace. It’s enough to make you set up your Christmas tree early."

NPR stated "She [Carey] delivers topline melody and sinuous runs in classic Carey form, and Khalid turns out to be a great duet partner: The 23-year-old R&B singer knows no one can outdo Carey, so his harmonies add just the right amount of tinsel. In regards to Franklin the newspaper stated "The song cleverly turns on a dime to a full-on Kirk Franklin stomp, as Carey's melisma decorates the gospel rave-up."
