The special would include performances from stars such as: BTS, Leon Bridges, Camila Cabello, Noah Cyrus, Cynthia Erivo, Khalid, Tove Lo, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and Ty Dolla $ign.[6] The ceremony was released on YouTube on June 7, 2020.
Surprise Appearance[]
During the ceremony, The cast of the hit Canadian sitcom "Shitt's Creek" were sending an in-character message to students via Zoom. Towards the end of their speech, they began to sing a harmonistic version of the song "Hero."[7] Towards the end of their performance, Mariah joined the Zoom conference and sang the lines:
“ | A hero lies... a hero lies....a hero...That a hero lies in you | ” |
After the performance, Mariah gave a speech dedicated to teachers and graduates of the class of 2020. During her speech, Monroe and Moroccan can be heard asking "Can I get on the zoom call?" and "Mommy, can I have some more soda?" to which she replied "No" and "Anyway." She ended her speech by thanking the cast and singing a snippet of the song "Always Be My Baby" to acter Dan Levy.[8]
Speech[]
The following is a transcript of Mariah's speech during the event:
“ | Moira darling, I hope you didn't mind that I jumped in like that. You all sounded so good that I had to get in on it. To all the teachers and professors, especially the ones who had to deal with students like me, who never really showed up at school on time, you rose to the occasion and helped these students reach the finish line. And to the students who had to deal with this bleak moment, congratulations on this historic accomplishment. Anyway, to all the teachers and students, you are so appreciated. And I just wanna say, Class of 2020, you made it!
Thank you guys so much |
