David Byron Cole (June 3, 1962 – January 24, 1995) was an American songwriter and record producer. He was one of the members of the group "Clivillés and Cole" which consisted of himself and his musical partner Robert Clivillés. Cole worked with Mariah on her studio albums: Emotions, MTV Unplugged, Music Box, and Merry Christmas. Cole passed away in January of 1995 and the song "One Sweet Day" was written in his honor.
Work with Mariah[]
Cole worked with Mariah on numerous songs from the "Emotions" album including: Emotions, Make it Happen, To Be Around You and You're So Cold. Cole has also worked on the songs: Joy to the World, Now That I Know and I've Been Thinking About You. He also has done multiple remixes for Mariah including: Anytime You Need a Friend (C&C Club Version) and Emotions (12" Club Mix).[1]
Death & Song Dedication[]
Cole died on January 25, 1995 from complications from spinal meningitis brought on by AIDS.[2] Following his death, Mariah began writing and developing a song that would pay homage to him and all the friends and family her fans had lost along life's journey. The song would become a collaboration with Boyz II Men titled "One Sweet Day."
