Mariah Carey Wiki

Ann Elizabeth Hickey (born: Ann Elizabeth Egan; December 7, 1903 - February 11 or 15, 1989) was an Irish-American St. Agnes Church & Pilot Club member. She is the maternal grandmother of Mariah Carey.[source?]

She married John W. Hickey in 1932, and he died in 1936.

Relationship with Patricia[]

In 1960, Patricia married Alfred Carey. It is reported that Ann "disowned" Patricia because of her views on interracial relationships and interacting with African Americans.

When Mariah was 12, she was the only child that was allowed to visit Ann in Illinois. Mariah believes she was invited because she possessed blond-like features and was "very fair for a mixed kid."

For many years after the death of Ann, Patricia visited her grave and lit a candle in her remembrance.[1]
